We were in the custom home business before the carpet protection film industry. We understand the demands and the type of customer you have to please. The last thing you need to worry about is Carpet Protection Film not working.

Can You Install Carpet Protector by Hand?

Pro Tect gets asked a lot, "Do I need to buy the Carpet Protector Dispenser in order to use your Carpet Adhesive Film?"  While we would love to sell a Carpet Protection Dispenser with every roll, it just isn't practical.  Our Carpet Protection Film comes reverse wound, simply get it started and roll it out. Does it take longer to install without a Carpet Film Dispenser? Yes, but if you are only getting a couple rolls and don't see yourself using the carpet film over and over, then save yourself some money.

  • The smaller Carpet Film Dispenser will fit our 24", 30" and 36" widths and both the 200' and 500' lengths.
  • The next size fits 36", 48" and 60" widths and both the 200' and 500' lengths.

Why Pro Tect Carpet Protection Film?

It's really is simple: we will put our quality up against any other Carpet Protector in the market.  Carpet Protection stays down from edge to edge. Most films release and when you come back the next day it is floating on the carpet and not protecting it. Our price might be a buck or two more, but the quality is second to none. We would love to do business with you, not once but for a lifetime. We come from the high-end home building business, and cutting corners never saved us money. Give us a try.

Which Size Dispenser Should I Buy?

If you see yourself using the small widths (24", 30", 36"), the small carpet film dispenser is the one to get. However, if you do jobs from small remodels to large commercial/hotel jobs the large carpet film dispenser is most likely the one to go with. Both dispensers fit the 36" rolls.

Step-by-Step Guides To Applying Carpet Protection and Using A Dispenser

Protecting a home during construction and remodeling is critically important. The last thing you want to do is damage the home you’re trying to improve! One of the trickiest areas to protect is a carpeted stairway. The structure and shape of certain stairways make it difficult to maneuver protective material.

This guide will help make it easy for you to protect your carpeted stairway with tools and step-by-step instructions from the experts at Pro Tect.

There are two ways to apply carpet protection to a stairway:

  • By hand
  • By using a carpet film dispenser

Our guides will show you how to protect your stairs by applying film by hand, as well as with a dispenser. It also includes instructions on loading a roll on a dispenser and basic dispenser use.

Do I Need A Carpet Film Dispenser?

Carpet film dispensers, although not required, certainly make the job easier. Operating a carpet film dispenser is smoother and faster than applying film by hand, but depending on the size of your area it may not be necessary for your needs.

Consider a using a carpet film dispenser if you:

  • Have a large area of flooring that needs protection
  • Experience back, hip, knee, or other joint problems that make manual labor difficult
  • Have upcoming projects that also require a dispenser in the future
  • Need to complete the job quickly

Applying Carpet Protection Down Stairs Using Dispenser

Step 1: Start at the top of the stairs and press the film into place.

Leave about a foot of base material at the top to work with.

roll top 1

When using a dispenser, be sure to position yourself on the downside of the stairs when you roll out the film. This way, you can apply more body strength and protect yourself from falling.

Step 2: Pull the carpet protection down the length of the first stair and press into the corner

roll length 1

Apply pressure while pulling the material down into the corner.

Step 3: Extend the carpet protection across the top of the second stair and repeat.

roll across 1

Still applying pressure, pull the film out of the corner, across the surface, to the edge of the next stair. From here, you are positioned to continue pulling the material down the length of the next stair, and repeating the process until you reach the bottom of the stairwell.

Step 4: Repeat the process down the rest of the stairs

Continue to press the film into place as you go.

roll repeat 1

Step 5: Use the dispenser as a base to cut the film when you are finished at the bottom of the stairs

The dispenser makes a nice cutting edge to finish applying the material.

roll cut 1

Again, to ensure that the film is down, it is best to go back up the stairs to smooth and press the film into place.

Conclusion

Whether you apply carpet protection by hand or with a dispenser, the important thing is you are taking the right precautions to prevent damage to your carpet.

Just follow four simple steps:

  1. Start at the top and press the film into place
  2. Extend the material to cover the next stair (if applying by hand, cut material for each stair as you go)
  3. Repeat the process down the rest of the stairs
  4. Cut the film at the bottom of the stairs to finish.
